As this year closes
We look forward to another
But are we ready for a new one
This year has been filled with pain
Foreclosures has taken away dreams
Employers reducing wages
Many call paying bills small miracles
Gas prices soar
Food prices are out of reach for some
Pushing against the reality we conceive
Violence takes on new heights
Every week we've gathered to cry
Another year is near
How many funerals shall we attend
Closing eyes in prayer
Our treatment of some pushes them in the abyss
Consider what may give birth
Are we really ready for a new year
